The tense guideline of the Max Payne Wiki (MPW:T) is the writing regulation that establishes what grammatical tense should be used in the wiki articles or their sections that are written in the in-universe style.

Tense: Past[]

The past tense is used to write in-universe data. Due to the Max Payne games taking place in different in-universe years, articles that span multiple years would especially benefit from being written in a past tense, clearing up any confusion on when the "author" of those articles had written them. With past tense, the "author" would be writing as if all of the events, characters, locations, and other in-universe article subjects that are in the games and comics were from a distant past.

Examples[]

  • Correct: Mona Sax hunted Angelo Punchinello in 2001. Mona was briefly seen by Max Payne when she escaped from Annie Finn's warehouse in 2003.
  • Correct: In 2003, Max Payne lived in an apartment in New York City.
  • Incorrect: Mona Sax hunts Punchinello in 2001. Max Payne briefly sees Mona escaping from Annie Finn's warehouse in 2003.
  • Incorrect: In 2003, Max Payne lives in an apartment in New York City.

Exception[]

Aside from the "out-of-universe" articles, the game chapter articles are written in a mostly out-of-universe style, so they would be exempt from the past tense writing for the plot summaries of game chapters.
