|The Million Dollar Quesion|
Max peeking around a corner.
|Location||Corcoran's Apartment Building|
|A Linear Sequence of Scares||Prologue (A Binary Choice)|
Max met Mona at her residence in a run-down funhouse, and Mona told her about an informant that would be of use in connecting the Inner Circle to Max's "Cleaner" situation, and the hit that's been placed on them both. Max grudgingly accepts, and they head to the apartment building to find her informant.
When the graphic novel scene ends the game will show a cutscene. Max decides that he should go up to see the Inner Circle member. You start off in an elevator that's heading up. When the elevator stops walk out into the lobby. Go right through the hallway and into the next room. Kill the 2 cleaners, (Shootdodge is recommended) next to the door then try to get in the door. Its locked, so you need to find another way through. Go out and go through the hallway to your left. Turn left once more and then go through the door. There will be 2 cleaners, armed with a shotgun and an MP5.Kill them both in here (or listen to their conversation). Once you kill them, you can find a dead body in the bathroom of the apartment, though Mona denies it being Corcoran. Go outside on the balcony and turn your left. Jump through the fence and then go into the apartment to your left.
Corcoran's apartment Edit
You are now inside the apartment of the Inner Circle member. On the far left of the room is a staircase. Go up the staircase and kill all the cleaners. The best way to do this is by provoking one, then taking them out with a close-range weapon like the Ingram or a shotgun as they rush down the stairs. Go in the room next to the bathroom to discover the Corcoran, brutally murdered. Mona tells you that you need to get out now. Head to the bathroom, and go inside, staying clear of the door as it closes. Take the painkillers if you need them, and wait. A couple cleaners will walk through the door (one is armed with the M4 Carbine, so watch out. They will throw grenades in Corcoran's room, and eventually open the bathroom, at which point you take them out with another close-range weapon.
Escape route Edit
Head into the door they walked into, and provoke the guys across the room through the open door, then take cover behind the wall, and pick them of as they runtowards you. An accurate weapon works best. Go down the staircase. There will be two cleaners playing the piano, and a third waiting outside should anything go wrong. Provoking them will result in the third jumping through the window. At this point you can hide and isten to the cleaner's astounding musical talents, or you can take them out now. The MP5 is recommended, as it has a scope and automatic fire, which is good for a situation like this. Go out on the balcony. All around the balcony there is a skinny ledge. Go to your right then jump down on the ledge. Use a grenade or a cocktail to take out the cleaners in the area. Go in the door to be seen, then wait behind the door to take them out as they run through. Or you can be lazy and throw in all your grenades and cocktails, since you'll have all your ammo confiscated at the end of the level anyway. Beware! Some of these cleaners like to throw grenades in the general direction of the door. Kill the lone guard that are on the other side of the lobby then walk over to the elevators. Go through the door to your right and into the apartment.Use either an assault rifle or the sniper rifle to take out the cleaners perched on the lift. (Knocking the cleaner off the lift results in an ultra cool cinematic shot) Go out the window onto the cleaners lift. Take the cleaners lift down and then make your way down the scafold. There are some cleaners who will be sniping at you and throwing grenades from an unknown location. Don't bother engaging them; as they'll forget about you when you reach the bottom. When you get to the bottom, ignore the poor guy who gets blasted out of the window; go to the window and kill the cleaner. Go through the apartment and out the door into the lobby.
Kill all of the cleaners in here using traditional gunsmanship techniques then proceed to the next lobby. Kill all the cleaners in here then the game will go into cutscene mode. Out of the Elevator will come Kaufman, and a handful of cleaners. \ Kaufman is tad bit hard to defeat. He's accompanied with at least seven to 10 cleaners, so the wisest thing would be to take them all out first, especially since Kaufman is armed with Dual Ingrams. After you kill all of them, shoot through the glass until you see Kaufman. Look out for the group of cleaners that will pop up behind you and try to flank you. Take a few shots at him and hide to avoid incoming fire. Do this a couple of times and Kaufman will go down. Just be careful not to go overboard when playing on the hardest difficulty, as Kaufman will most likely kill you with a few shots.
An elevator will come up and a cleaner will step out. Kill the cleaner and then take his elevator down.
The police have arrived on the scene, and Max comes down to find Winterson arresting Mona. She also sees Max, and repeatedly asks him "What are you doing?".
- When you are on the scaffolding before going into the last apartment, going around the ledge will lead to an easter egg. It is a memorial reading "Miika Forssell 1983 - 2003 In Memoriam."
- After you have killed Kaufman, return to the last apartment. There is a wall television. Turn it on, and you will see a cutscene of a drive-by shooting with a top-down view, which looks very similar to what the first Grand Theft Auto game looks like.
- It is possible to save the man in the suit from being killed; however, Max will need to have half of his bullet time remaining and for it to be at least half-yellow, run forward in bullet time, and gun down the cleaneres before they can take a shot at him. Max can't interact with the man he saves; he'll just cower in fear.
