Characteristics
Edit
The Punchinello manor is large and consists of a vine cellar, a kitchen and dining area, many lounges, a bar, some bedrooms, Punchinello's office and a large stairway.
Events
Edit
In 2001, the fugitive Max Payne's one-man war against the Punchinello crime family brings him to the manor after an unsuccessful attempt to target Angelo Punchinello at his restaurant.
Max Payne enters the building through the back door and soon finds a brutalized dead body of a mobster with hints that the the hitman Mona Sax, who was reportedly captured by Punchinello's men, has escaped.
Payne meets fierce resistance from the members of the mob as he battles his way through the basement of the manor to its upper and more luxurious floors. He kills scores of goons, including the notorious members of the Trio (Providence is eliminated first, followed by Salem, and then Mugnaio).
In the upper floor bedrooms, Max Payne finds the dead body of Lisa Punchinello and is reminded of his own family's brutal and similar end. Right before he enters the Punchinello's office, he picks up a ringing telephone to listen to Alfred Woden warn him that an armed helicopter has just descended in the mansion's premises, and he should make haste.
Payne kicks open the door to find Angelo begging for help on another phone. The fugitive, putting a pistol to the Don's head, quickly starts interrogating him. The Mafia boss tries to deny his guilt saying he was merely following orders of another, more powerful party, mentioning a female figure. Before Max can get any more answers to his questions, three heavily armed Killer Suits storm the room and shoot Punchinello dead on the spot. Payne manages to kill the three attackers but, when he exits the adjacent room, he is ambushed by more than a dozen of these operatives, led by Nicole Horne herself. Outgunned and with no escape, the man surrenders.
Horne decides to inject Max Payne with an overdose of valkyr to fabricate his suicide rather than kill him and leave evidence. The drug quickly makes itself felt as Payne sinks unconscious while the woman orders her minions to get the helicopter airborne and take her to Cold Steel.
Payne manages to survive the effects of valkyr and, when he wakes up, hurries to the steel foundry Horne had mentioned for more clues, now, in his mind, picturing a new, female face as a prime target of his revenge.
The manor is last mentioned in a news report broadcast on radio as having been set on fire;[1] it was most likely done by Horne's minions to destroy any evidence.
